Rooftop LED and Projections for Tribeca Film Festival

With all-new rooftop seating, Tribeca Film Festival is the first North American film festival to bring back in-person viewing since the pandemic began in 2020. Essay Video provided the outdoor rooftop LED screens and projections for the annual film festival.

Rooftop Film Festival

At the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival, Essay Video installed the rooftop outdoor LED at two sites. The festival took place at multiple sites. Essay provided the rooftop installs at Spring Studio and Standard Hotel. This included the Tribeca Talks and Podcast sessions, followed by the Tribeca Film Festival Awards and Tribeca X.

To produce this event, Essay brought together an engineering and rigging team since outdoor LED screens require careful preparations prior to the show for safety regulations. To accomplish this, the rigging apparatus was designed to withstand high-winds, and the drawings had to be signed off by an NY professional engineer . This included high-wind action plans to meet NYC DOB regulations.

Cyclorama Projection

Essay Video installed six Panasonic projectors in the virtual reality gallery on the 5th floor. In addition, Essay used one Barco 20K with an UST (Ultra Short Throw) lens against a 90° curved cyclorama photography scenic wall. The end result is an immersive space for the art filim pictured left. This multi-user installation entitled “We Are at Home” by directors Michelle and Uri Kranot. The film is based on Carl Sandburg’s 1922 poem “The Hangman at Home.”
